In this episode, Barb talks with Alyssa Merwin, Vice President, LinkedIn Sales Solutions, Americas about her passion for supporting and guiding the next generation of women in sales. Alyssa leads a team over of 250 people within one of LinkedIn’s fastest growing businesses. Prior to this role, Alyssa led LinkedIn’s North American Search & Staffing business where she was responsible for the strategy and execution of the division’s acquisition and renewals teams.
Alyssa’s true passion lies in building and developing teams and individuals, leading sales organizations, and being a true thought leader in the industry.
We kicked off talking about why the topic of leadership is so important to Alyssa.
4 tips for building high performing teams: authenticity, coaching, vulnerability and accountability… being human.
Life is full of teachable moments and Alyssa shared an example of how she didn’t initially bond with a new sales team. Listen to what Alyssa learned and did after receiving some tough feedback from her manager about the situation.
Many women believe “myths” about leadership, including that being a female leader is a disadvantage. Alyssa feels just the opposite. Learn why she believes being a woman a bigger advantage than you might think.
For those women who aspire to be in a sales leadership role, Alyssa shares her advice to help you prepare? (We talked about women sitting on the sidelines waiting for people to notice their work, women afraid to risk when they don’t believe they have 100% of the readiness to do the job, etc.)
